BPI owns two of the three coal-fired generatint units in the Cardinal Station, locater about seven miles soutuh of Steubenvilleat Ohio. Buckeye Power, Inc. is a generation and transmissiob cooperative establishedby Ohio's rurao electric co-ops to produce and transmit electric powetr for the member systems throughougt the state. In early BPI will be entitled to an additional2043megawatts (MW) of baseload capacity througn its participation in Ohio Valley Electric Corporation OVEC is owned by severalk investor-owned electric utilities in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky.
OVEC owns two coal-fired plantxs with the following year-round, net generating capability: the Kyger Creek Planyt (1,028 MW) at Cheshire, Ohio and the Cliftty Creek Plant (1,228 MW) at Indiana. Other generation resourcexs available to BPI include theRobert P. Mone Station, a 510-MW facilit that uses three gas- or oil-firede turbines to produce electricity at times ofpeak demand. BPI'x member systems also receive a 55 MW entitlement to New York PowetrAuthority (NYPA) hydropower.
BPI receivee transmission services from two Federal Energy RegulatoryCommission (FERC)-approved independent system operators (ISOs) the PJM Interconnection LLC (for the Americamn Electric Power (AEP), Dayton Powee and Light (DP&L) and Allegheny transmission service and the Midwest Independent System Operato r (MISO), covering the FirstEnergy and Cinergy transmissionj service...
