After considering about 40 alternate area siteas duringa two-year real estate Black & Veatch said March 23 that it would keep its growin g headquarters operation at 11401 Lamar Ave., whicb it has occupied since its original construction in 1976. Blacki & Veatch bought the building, which was expandex to 600,000 square feet in 1996 and is the largest office buildingin Kansas, from Chicago-baserd . A consortium of local banks led by financecthe transaction, which eventually is expected to resulft in more than 1,000 new jobs for Overland Park.
The area’s 12th-largest private-sector employer, Black Veatch employs 3,800 at five area including morethan 2,300 at the Lamatr Avenue headquarters.
