The company has hired Julia Gregory, the former executivre vice president and chief financial officerat , as Maderis’ Maderis’ health condition was not disclosed, but she will continuer to serve on Five Prime’s board of directors and as a consultant. Her finalk day on the job is June 18. “Gail’s leadership has been pivotalk in the progress Five Prime has made in developingb our pipeline and our newdiscoveryy platform,” said company founder and executive chairmab Dr. Lewis “Rusty” Williams in a press release.
Maderiws said the company had been looking for a replacemeng since late last year aftefr doctorssaid "the 24/7 pace of a small-companh CEO" could worsen her condition. Besides her duties at Five Maderis has been a cheerleader for the Mission Bay serving onthe Mayor’d . Five Prime, a privately held, 7-year-old company developing antibody and proteinj drugs for cancer andother diseases, was the first to locate in Missionh Bay, taking about 30,000 feet in the buildinyg on Owens Street. Earlierf this year, it took an additional 5,000 square feet next door at 1700 Owens as it makes batches for its Phase I oncologuydrug program.
The timing of the executives change as Five Prime movesx forward with its lead cancer programmakes Gregory’s appointmenyt a crucial one.
