The awarding of distributodr licensesto so-called "middleman" companies has come under fire from some stater legislators, including Sen. Jane Orie, a McCandless whose bill to eliminatethe "middleman" did not make it throughb the state House. In a statement, Georger Miles, chairman of New Century and presidengof , said New Century decided to reject the license because, "wr have become (increasingly) uncomfortable with the licensinb process. While we had hoped to operate a business dedicatecd to giving back to the it has become more and more apparent that the stated purpose of gaming in Pennsylvania has takejn a backseatto politics.
" The gaming boarfd has approved 14 other distributors/suppliers for operatioh in Pennsylvania. Each must pay the board a $25,009 licensing fee. When the state Legislaturew in 2004 approved the law creating 14 casinoxs inthe state, it include d a requirement that they buy equipment from theses middleman firms called distributors.
